With the new year many people want to loose weight and counting calories is a good way. It is a tried and true method. But along with calorie counting you should include some kind of exercise in your life. Walking is an excellent exercise without too much effort. Just remember the faster you walk the more calories you will burn.
First, most experts feel that a diet of 1500 calories a day will let you lose weight. You should not try to cut all of your calories at once, try to lower them each day and at the end of a few weeks your calorie intake will be where you want to be. If you start to eat lower calorie foods you will also be able to eat larger amounts of food, and at the same time lower the calorie intake.
Secondly, you will find it is better to eat more small meals each day, rather than 3 large ones. If you eat just three meals you will find you are hungrier at meals and tend to eat too much. You must learn to eat fruits and vegetables,lean meats and low carb foods. Keep in mind even when dieting your body still needs a certain amount of fats to burn energy.
In addition, you must estimate the amount of calories you are taking in each day and and try to estimate the calories you are burning from exercise to see if you are loosing weight. The norm is about 60% of calories are being burned off. If you do not fall in that range, you may have to cut back on calories and adjust your eating.

The reason you cannot lose weight by starving yourself (using a low calorie diet) is because your metabolism will detect any major drop in calories and it will then ADJUST ITSELF by burning fewer calories each day.
If you begin eating 2,500 calories per day then your metabolism will adjust itself so that your body begins burning 2,500 calories per day.
For example:
If you try to starve yourself by suddenly eating 1,000 calories per day then your metabolism will again ADJUST ITSELF so that your body begins to burn only 1,000 calories per day. That’s why you have failed in your past dieting attempts, that’s why you always seem to fail when you try and starve yourself.
Now you know the reason why you can eat 1,000 calories per day and not lose any weight while your friends can eat 2,500 calories per day and not gain any weight.
Low FAT Diets Do NOT Work
Also, virtually every person in today’s society is buying mostly “low fat” or “non fat” food at the grocery store, everybody is conscious of the “fat grams” inside the food they buy. However, people are getting fatter than ever by doing this and people are not losing weight by switching to the “low fat lifestyle”. You cannot lose weight using Low Fat Diets. Low fat foods have been popular for more than 15 years, but yet our society is getting more overweight as each year passes. This fact alone should tell you that eating a purely low fat menu is not the answer to losing weight.
Low CARBS Diets Make You MISERABLE
Low carb diets have certainly become popular in recent years, but such diets often leave you feeling miserable each day (since they drain most of your energy and can leave you feeling quite awful each day).
